The sinking of the Junyo Maru is the largest maritime disaster, ever, costing the lives of 5620 people. But it is hardly talked about. The Junyo Maru was torpedoed on 18 September 1944 off the cost off West Sumatra, not far from its destination Padang, filled to the brim with Dutch, British, American and Indonesian prisoners of war.
